Boom Boom Bell, a 2-year-old filly, became the first winner for the late grade 1-winning millionaire Combatant when she captured the first race at Hawthorne Race Course July 27.
The filly was bred by Rockridge Stud, who stood her sire near Hudson, N.Y. A son of Scat Daddy, Combatant stood his first and only year in 2022 for $7,500 before succumbing to colic that summer in Chile where he had just started Southern Hemisphere duties at Haras Porta Pia.
Combatant's greatest accomplishment came in the 2020 Santa Anita Handicap (G1) when he defeated Multiplier by a neck. The John Sadler trainee hit the board in 15 of his 30 starts, racking up earnings of $1,062,915 for owners Hronis Racing. He was a $320,000 yearling purchase at the 2016 Keeneland September Sale, where he was purchased by Winchell Thoroughbreds, who campaigned him for the first three years of his career.
Making her third start in a five-furlong dirt race, Boom Boom Bell broke sharply, never falling behind to draw clear in the lane by 3 3/4 lengths under Ademar Santos.
Owned by JW Racing Group, the filly was purchased by trainer Harry Lynch at the 2024 Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $3,200 from the Vinery Sales consignment. She is out of the stakes-placed Majesticperfection mare Perfect Fit, who is the dam of two other winners.
