If you like fast horses, you probably like Shisospicy. If you want a fast horse, you're probably shopping at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Spring 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale.

If both of those statements apply to you, you're going to want to check out Hip 1112.

The daughter of Yaupon , consigned by Julie Davies, is out of the winning Into Mischief  mare Mischief Galore, making her a half sister to Shisospicy.

Last year, Shisospicy burned up turf courses with dazzling speed en route to becoming the first 3-year-old filly to win the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (G1T) against older males. That win, along with two other graded triumphs, led to the daughter of Mitole  being named Eclipse champion female sprinter.

That victory was fantastic news for Gordon Reiss, who purchased Mischief Galore in foal with the Yaupon filly being offered at OBS April 17 for $40,000 at the 2024 Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale.

"The mare is an outstanding mare," Reiss said. "She throws a lot of talent through her babies. She's one of those special broodmares."

It was hard for Reiss to part with the mare, but a late cover date combined with Shisospicy's Breeders' Cup triumph made the timing right, and he sold her, in foal to 2021 champion male sprinter Jackie's Warrior , for $750,000 at the 2025 Fasig-Tipton's The November Sale.

He will now hope to have repeat success with the Yaupon filly who was a $270,000 RNA at the 2025 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, but that was just under two months before Shisospicy proved to be the fastest turf sprinter in the country. Now, it's likely she will have a lot more eyes on her.

Reiss himself has spent quite a bit of time around Shisospicy as she has trained with Jose D'Angelo at Palm Meadows Training Center. When he has been sent photos of Shisospicy as a youngster by Taylor Made Farm, he sees quite a few similarities.

"They were not these huge-profile horses," Reiss said. "(Shisospicy is) very sleek, but as she's getting older she's been filling out more and more. (Hip 1112) looks a lot like (Shisospicy did) in those pictures."

Having been in training with Davies since the Keeneland sale, the speed possessed by the filly's sister seems to be present in Hip 1112. During the April 11 under-tack show, the Florida-bred filly went a furlong in :09 4/5.

"She's just a really quick filly, she's going to be super, super fast," Reiss said. "She is going to run early, and she is going to make a mark for herself. I can see that already. That much is very like her mom. I had her when she was a baby, and I got to watch her for quite a while. She was definitely a little zipper."

This filly is the fourth foal out of Mischief Galore, and the previous three are all winners. In addition to Shisospicy, the filly has a 3-year-old full brother named Yasup who broke his maiden in the United Arab Emirates this winter.

Reiss had wanted a mare in foal to Yaupon, a grade 1-winning sprinter, and was familiar with Mischief Galore. Having worked with Randy Hartley and Dean DeRenzo of Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds many times over the years, he was aware they had a filly out of the mare preparing for the 2024 2-year-old sales: Shisospicy.

His flight to Keeneland for the 2024 January sale, where Mischief Galore was entered, was canceled. He called DeRenzo to ask his thoughts on Shisospicy, and he told him that they loved her and he should be prepared to spend a lot of money on the mare. Their recommendation led to Reiss bidding online for the first time, and he was successful in acquiring Mischief Galore.

A few months later, on the day when Shisospicy breezed :09 3/5 during the OBS under-tack show, Reiss said DeRenzo and Hartley were approached by Susan Montanye of SBM Training and Sales, who had done the early training for Mischief Galore.

"She said, 'The fastest filly I've ever had in my training center was Mischief Galore,'" Reiss said.

The mare never got a real chance to prove it. One day, as she was preparing to breeze, another horse walked by and Mischief Galore reared up and fell, breaking her tail. Still, she would go on to be a three-time winner in seven starts for owners Corinne and William Heiligbrodt.

That speed has now passed on to the mare's foals, and has only been strengthened by the sires. Mitole, sire of Shisospicy, was champion male sprinter in 2019. Yaupon won the Forego Stakes (G1) in 2021.

With his first crop now 3-year-olds, last year's leading freshman sire Yaupon has gotten off to a good start at stud with Spendthrift Farm, where he stands for $60,000 this year. Despite being a grade 1-winning sprinter, his first graded winner came over 1 1/8 miles when Albus won the Wood Memorial Stakes (G2) April 4. On the first day of the OBS sale, a Yaupon filly (Hip 75) consigned by Davies sold for $625,000 to White House Stables.
