Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher and owners Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Walmac Farm teamed up again with the half sister to their grade 1 champion Locked . The 3-year-old filly Code broke her maiden May 9 on Gulfstream Park's turf.
Under jockey Joe Bravo, Code broke alertly but rated off the leader On My Time, who set opening fractions of :24.30 and :47.71. The daughter of Tiz the Law continued to travel in hand down the backstretch and began to pick off her competition on the turn. As the field hit the stretch, she was a head behind the new leader Little Georgie. Code continued under a drive and pulled clear in the final sixteenth, hitting the wire a length in front. She completed the 7 1/2 furlongs on the turf in a final time of 1:29:16, and paid $16.80 for the win. She broke her maiden in her second career start, earning an 89 Equibase Speed Figure and a 72 Beyer Speed Figure.
Code is out of the Malibu Moon mare Luna Rosa, who is the dam of three winners. Her most notable progeny is the grade 1 winner Locked. The son of Gun Runner scored in the Breeders' Futurity (G1) at 2 and the Santa Anita Handicap (G1) at 4. His final start was in the Woodward Stakes (G2), which he won before being retired to stud at Gainesway Farm, where he stands for $35,000 in 2026.

Tulip takes them all the way to break her maiden
The next day, May 10, at Churchill Downs, Tulip broke her maiden in front-running fashion.
Trained by Will Walden, the 3-year-old daughter of Flameaway broke sharply and was rushed up to grab the lead under jockey Luan Machado. Racing 2 1/2 lengths clear of her competition, Tulip set fractions of :22.92, :47.46, 1:12.66, and 1:36.55. She continued to race under confident handling, and was still 2 lengths clear when coming into the stretch of the 1 /18 mile turf race. Never challenged, she hit the wire under a drive, 1 1/4 lengths ahead of her rivals in a final time of 1:48.49. At odds of 6-1, she paid $14.68 for the win and earned an 86 Equibase Speed Figure and a 71 Beyer Speed Figure.
Tulip is out of the Tapit mare Dancinginherdreams, who won the 2010 Pocahontas Stakes (G2). Dancinginherdreams has had three foals reach the winner's circle. Her most notable progeny is the Justify colt Champions Dream , who won the Nashua Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct Racetrack.
Tulip was bred by John Oxley and purchased by her owners LNJ Foxwoods and Church Street Stable at the 2024 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearlings Sale for $130,000.
