A filly from the first crop of 2023 champion 3-year-old male and Lane's End stallion Arcangelo sold to Donato Lanni, agent, for $170,000 to post the top price of the 11th session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale Sept. 25.
Consigned by Penn Sales, agent for Hannah Smith, the filly (Hip 4107) is from the family of grade 2 winner California Angel; grade 3 winner Cool Kiss; and stakes winners Bashful Charmer, Our Double Play, Cool Spell, Coarsegold, Hot Kiss, Sully's Dream, Let Em Shine, and Golden Diamond. Her dam is the winning Uncle Mo mare Mo's Love.
With the purchase, Lanni was the session's leading buyer.
On Friday, with one day remaining in the September sale, 259 yearlings sold, including post-ring sales, for $6,122,500, for an average of $23,639 and a median of $17,000. The gross declined 9.4% from last year's corresponding session when 303 horses sold for $6,761,200. The average is 5.9% higher than $22,314 in 2025, and the median rose 13.3% from $15,000.
Since the auction began Sept. 14, Keeneland has sold 2,759 horses for $553,188,000 for an average of $200,503 and a median of $100,000. The gross is 4.8% above the same period last year when 2,842 horses brought $528,025,200. The average has increased 7.9% from $185,794 in 2025, while the median is 11.1% higher than $90,000.
Zalimkhan Koilakaev paid $120,000 for a colt (Hip 3676) from the first crop of grade 2 winner Pappacap consigned by Paramount Sales, agent. The first foal out of the Distorted Humor mare Red River Hawk, he is from the family of grade 2 winners Katz Me If You Can and Crazy Mason, and group 1-placed Abundancia.
III Beautys Thoroughbred paid $105,000 for a colt (Hip 3877) by Connect out of the First Samurai mare Beverly's Song. Consigned by Hunter Valley Farm, agent, he is a half sibling to stakes winner Gran Manuel, and hails from the family of grade 2 winner Super Frolic and grade/group 3 winners Lindsay Frolic and Drew's Gold.
Taproot Bloodstock, agent, paid $100,000 for Admirer (Hip 3816), a colt by Bolt d'Oro out of Worshipper, a winning daughter of Awesome Again. Consigned by Bridie Harrison, agent for Peter E. Blum Thoroughbreds, the colt's dam, a producer of six winners from seven foals to race, is a half sister to grade 2 winner and prominent sire Pulpit.
Taylor Made Sales Agency sold 29 yearlings for $711,000 to lead consignors.
The 12th and final session of the September sale begins at 10 a.m. ET Sept. 26, when hips 4171-4650 are slated to go through the ring. The auction will be livestreamed at Keeneland.com.
